K.I.S.S – Keep It Simple Sweetie
My version of this old saying. In this article, I am referring to systems for your business. I have found some business owners and entrepreneurs seem to think, more is better. I will share that in the case of your business and systems for your business, you will want less. My favorite mantra is “Less is More.” Let me explain.
If you have your client relationship management system (CRM) in one on-line platform; your database management system (DMS) in another platform; your email newsletter management system on yet another platform, you need to keep up with all of them. That is not only time consuming, but you will find yourself feeling disorganized.
I prefer all my systems in one platform. Now, there are many online platforms for everything business-wise. I have found over the years that having everything in one system keeps me organized and doesn’t have my mind trying to figure out where I have to go, next. And then there’s the passwords for all the systems. Of course, it’s not recommended that you have the same password for everything so then you need to have a different password for every system and then you get confused as to which one is which. Again, there are several systems out there for organizing your passwords. This can all be so overwhelming.
Over the past years I have recommended to my clients to keep it simple. I prefer Google Suite for email, documents, spreadsheets. I keep all my client information on a google sheet. I may type my documents in Microsoft Word but then I upload into google docs. I keep all my passwords on a google sheet. The added benefit to this is that all that information is easily accessible from anywhere.
Another saying: “The Bright Shiny Object”
Some people also find that chasing the newest, latest and greatest thing is what they should be doing. Then they are moving everything from one system to another. Again, time consuming and overwhelming. If something isn’t broken, don’t fix it!
The caveat to all this: if you’re finding what you’ve been using isn’t working for you any longer, then yes, find what will work for you.
This is where I come in. I do all the research to find what will work for you, implement it, and then teach you how to do it. Or you delegate it to me to do. But I always recommend that you learn it yourself as well, just in case I am not available, and something needs to be done or you need to find something.
